The Linus Pauling Therapy to Control Heart Disease... the Natural Way

By Arturo Galindo, Cert. Nutritional Therapist

Many people use the Pauling Therapy to control heart disease the natural way.  This nutritional program uses vitamin C and the amino acid lysine to control heart disease... and both are substances that are natural to the body.

This is important information because nearly half of the adult population in the US has some form of heart disease... and many people are looking for natural alternatives to better control heart disease.

My wife and I have used this nutritional program for several years now with amazing results.

In this article, I’ll explain how the Pauling Therapy works... and how you can use this nutritional program to help your body maintain a healthy cardiovascular system.

Important:  Ascorbic acid or vitamin C is more than a vitamin.
Why? It regulates many functions in your body to make sure they're doing their best job in keeping you healthy!

Linus Pauling Research

The Pauling Therapy goes back to 1989... when Linus Pauling, Ph.D., and Matthias Rath, M.D. created The Unified Theory of Human Cardiovascular Disease

The Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine published this research paper in 1992. It was the result of many years of research and experience with ascorbic acid.

This information is critical for you if you ...

  • Have suffered a heart attack or stroke
  • Undergone artery bypass surgery
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Have any other form of cardiovascular disease (CVD)

Below is a summary of Pauling' s research paper explained in simple terms. This is the base knowledge of the Pauling Therapy.

The Role of Lysine in Plaque Formation

Have you ever wondered how plaque is created in your arteries?

Linus Pauling explains this in very simple terms that any person can understand...

The cells in your body are made of molecules. Inside molecules are “pockets” used to attract and combine with other molecules.

Now, there is a cholesterol molecule called Lp(a).

The pockets of the cholesterol molecule attract molecules from a substance called lysine... an amino acid that is natural to the body.

The “attraction” between cholesterol and lysine creates plaque in the artery walls... when the arteries are deficient in collagen.

Here's a scientific study that shows the link between cholesterol Lipoprotein Lp(a) molecule and heart disease.

But how exactly does plaque forms? The process is actually very simple.

  1. The arteries that don’t have enough collagen have weak walls and start to damage.
  2. The tissues of damaged artery walls release the amino acid lysine
  3. Cholesterol sticks to the lysine released by damaged artery walls
  4. This creates a natural plaster “cast” or plaque

This is your body repair mechanism to “patch” these damaged walls with plaques so they don’t break or leak.

Remember… cholesterol and lysine attract to each other.

How Vitamin C and Lysine Help Your CardioVascular System

As I mentioned before... the main structural component of your cardiovascular system is collagen.

  • Enough supplemented vitamin C means enough collagen
  • Enough collagen means strong artery walls.

And what about lysine?

Enough supplemented Lysine means no plaque formation and healing.

Why? Because cholesterol sticks to the supplemented lysine... instead of the lysine released by damaged artery walls.

By taking vitamin C and lysine at the same time you help your body:

  1. Strengthen the artery walls
  2. Prevent and even reverse plaque formation

Isn’t that incredible?  If you help your body and provide it with the right nutrients in the right amounts, your body will start to heal!

This is a scientific study published in 1996 on vitamin C and lysine: Nutritional Supplement Program Halts Progression of Early Coronary Atherosclerosis Documented by Ultrafast Computed Tomography

Something important to consider…

If you follow the Pauling Therapy you may develop high cholesterol... for the first few months after you start the nutritional program.

Why is that?  According to Linus Pauling, this is because blood vessels release all the fatty plaques accumulated over the years.

As your body releases the plaque from the artery walls your cholesterol begins to fall.

The Pauling Therapy

The following are the Linus Pauling recommendations for controlling heart disease.

To prevent heart disease

  • Take 3,000 and 6,000 mg of vitamin C in divided doses during the day (every 4 hours). Take more before bedtime.
  • Take 2,000 to 6,000 mg (2 to 6 grams) of lysine daily

To control and reverse heart disease

  • Take 6,000 to 18,000 mg of vitamin C as ascorbic acid daily up to bowel tolerance... in divided doses during the day (every 4 hours). Take more before bedtime
  • Take 5,000 to 6,000mg (5 to 6 grams) of lysine daily

The main components of this therapy are vitamin C and lysine. Both are safe to take in high amounts and have no known toxicity.

Linus Pauling also lists other heart vitamins and nutritional recommendations in his book How to Live Longer and Feel Better.

These are the options on how to take vitamin C and lysine...

You can get ascorbic acid and lysine powders separately and mix them in a glass of water. This option will be cheaper.

If you have a sensitive stomach, you can use sodium ascorbate. This is ascorbic acid with sodium bicarbonate to balance the pH. My article on vitamin C powders lists some of the brands that we use.

The other option is to get a supplement that already has vitamin C and lysine. It'll cost more but it offers the convenience of not having to mix all the ingredients yourself. Some of the options are:

  • Tower Laboratories selling Pauling Therapy products
  • Sufficient-C has vitamin C, lysine and it also has proline and other nutrients

If a heart disease is one of your concerns, the important thing is to take enough ascorbic acid and lysine... as recommended by Dr. Pauling.

You will be glad that you did since you'll help your body maintain a strong cardiovascular system... and even heal.
